All of us have walked down many different paths in our lives to get where we are today. I want you to come with me and walk down one of the paths I walked when I was a girl growing up in Jonesboro, Georgia in the late 1940s and early 1950s. In case you are not familiar with Jonesboro, it is about thirty miles south of Atlanta.

When I was a young girl most families had only one car -- if they were lucky enough to afford a car -- and there were only a few paved roads throughout Georgia. So many people walked on dirt roads to get where they wanted to go. With my bare feet, I walked many miles down the red dirt roads of Jonesboro, Georgia.

Today I want you to come along with me as I travel down the red dirt road and tell you about my life as it is reflected in my book, Separate Fountains.

Separate Fountains is dedicated to

Mama and Daddy

and

To the good and decent people of Jonesboro who were part of my family's life and part of this story.
